Openness, Mentorship, and the Many Ways We Rise

March 2, 2026 469

Some careers move in straight lines.
Others bend, pause, restart — and grow stronger because of it.

Julie Homsy’s leadership journey is a reflection of that second path. A recruiter, consultant, and longtime talent partner, Julie has spent her career helping people and organizations find alignment — often while navigating her own evolving definition of success.

For Tiffany Odutoye, this conversation carries years of shared history. Julie has witnessed Tiffany’s professional evolution firsthand, just as Julie herself has moved between corporate roles and independent consulting, always returning to work that centers people, growth, and humanity.

Listening to Julie feels like catching up with someone who has learned that progress doesn’t always mean moving faster — sometimes it means staying open.

A Career Shaped by Flexibility

Julie began her career in more traditional roles before stepping into the world of independent consulting. Over time, she learned that her work thrived at the intersection of structure and freedom — building recruiting processes, supporting growing businesses, and helping leaders rethink how they attract and retain talent.

Throughout her journey, Julie moved between W-2 roles and independent work, gathering perspective from both sides of the workplace. That experience sharpened her understanding of how companies operate — and how employees experience those systems in real life.

Her work today reflects that balance: supporting organizations while keeping people at the center of every decision.

People before Process

One of Julie’s strongest themes is the need to humanize the recruitment and employee experience. She believes relationships matter more than checklists — whether that’s walking with candidates to learn who they truly are, rethinking how interviews are conducted, or ensuring people are treated with respect at every stage of the hiring process.

Julie also speaks openly about how the workplace has changed. Flexibility, purpose, and autonomy are no longer optional — they are expectations. Companies that adapt thoughtfully, blending remote work with intentional connection, create environments where both people and performance can thrive.

Her perspective is grounded, practical, and deeply empathetic — shaped by years of listening to candidates, leaders, and teams navigating change.

Advice to Her 25-Year-Old Self

When asked what she would tell her younger self, Julie’s response is thoughtful and generous:

“Don’t give up. Be open-minded and flexible. Seek out leaders within your community or organization that you admire. Find a mentor or coach — it would have made a world of difference.”

Looking back, Julie recognizes how powerful guidance and support can be — and how much faster growth becomes when you don’t try to navigate it alone.

Her Superhero: Everyone Along the Way

Julie shares that she didn’t have one defining superhero early in her career. Instead, she believes something even more expansive:

“Everybody I’ve encountered is a superhero.”

From business owners to leaders she’s worked alongside, Julie draws lessons from each interaction. Every experience, she believes, carries something worth learning — if you stay open enough to see it.

Why Julie Homsy’s Story Matters

Julie’s story is a reminder that leadership isn’t always loud or linear. Sometimes it looks like adaptability. Sometimes it looks like curiosity. Sometimes it looks like learning from everyone you meet.

Her journey shows that growth happens when we remain flexible, seek guidance, and remember that success isn’t defined by a single moment — but by the people we help along the way.
